All PLACE children are “dual registered” with their home local authority on its EHE register and also with the PLACE Programme. Families registered with the PLACE Programme are elective home educators who have chosen PLACE support with their home education. Every PLACE youngster is already on his or her LA’s elective home education register and reverts to EHE registration with the home LA on de-registration from the PLACE Programme. A de-registered family simply returns to the previous relationship they had with their LA, whether this involved home visits, written reports or something else.
Every new family wishing to join PLACE agrees to an eight-week trial period. This enables the family to try PLACE and new youngsters to take part in PLACE’s enrichment activities and/or to try GCSE sessions prior to any formal decision to register being made and accepted. The trial period also enables PLACE to ensure that agreed attendances and the requirement for submission of weekly codes and other rules are being observed. At the end of the eight-week trial period, a new family not wishing to remain involved with PLACE would then revert to EHE registration with its home LA, thus returning to the previous relationship held with their LA, whether this involved home visits, written reports or something else.
